Student at the centre, teaching that works

Across eight and a half years at the school I have worked with the younger and middle year groups, gathering wide experience of both classroom and online teaching. In 2019 I studied at Jinan University's College of Chinese Language and Culture, and in 2020 I published the article "How does Xingzhi actually teach Chinese? It comes down to four words…" in the school's newsletter.

Eight years in the children's company. Throughout, I have held "student at the centre, teaching that works" as my guiding idea, down to every detail of daily practice. I respect each child's individuality, stay attentive to what they actually need, and support them in growing steadily at their own pace.

Years in front of a class have taught me something fundamental: a classroom that genuinely works is not measured by how much the teacher manages to say, but by whether the children want to learn, enjoy thinking and dare to speak. So I work towards an atmosphere that is relaxed and orderly yet lively and interesting, replacing one-way delivery with questions that prompt thought. Through steady encouragement and positive feedback I help children build confidence, and draw them into taking part actively, thinking for themselves and speaking up bravely — so that the initiative in learning is genuinely handed back to them.

Going forward I want to keep walking with the children on the road through Chinese, with care, patience and the same unchanging attention, so that their steps are sure and steady.
