Setting another tree in motion

I am a researcher working at the frontier of medicine, and at the same time a teacher of Chinese abroad with a love of traditional Chinese culture and a real enjoyment of meeting students from different backgrounds. Since Xingzhi was founded I have had the privilege of being part of this warm group and growing along with it.

Over the years my lessons have always aimed to bring the best of Chinese culture together with a modern, technological outlook, and to lead students towards using Chinese naturally and fluently through "able to listen, willing to speak, able to use". I am convinced that education is like one tree setting another tree in motion: with interest as the way in, understanding at the core and expression as the sail, learning a language becomes both effective and genuinely enjoyable.

My hope is that students do not only learn a language, but that through Chinese they can enter Chinese ways of thinking and feeling, and understand both the lines of the culture and the pulse of the present day there. Going forward I want to keep accompanying more explorers, so that Chinese becomes a key with which they understand the world and connect to the future.
